What event caused more violence and murder than Jesus Christ’s legacy?
The belief in Jesus Christ and his legacy has caused violence and conflict for nearly 2000 years. Religious wars in the 17 and 18th century, the christian crusades….etc.(My knowledge in history is limited,). Does anyone know the estimated death toll, and is there another individual in history that ultimately brought about the number of death as Jesus Christ?(My guess would be maybe muhammad).
Notice I didnt say that Jesus directly cause the violence, but that it was his legacy he left behind that caused it through his followers.
Starlight: You need a casualty number for Jesus’s legacy before saying that its less than 6-10 million.
It is not religions that cause violence and killing. The greatest mass murderers of the 20th century were the secular Adolph Hitler, and the anti-religion Joseph Stalin. It is the evil part in human nature. Sometime in the name of religion, nationalism, ethnicity, …, etc. Usually it’s when people feel threatened in their life or Identity.

Boy, you are in for it now…
All the crazy Christian nutsy-folks are gonna exhibit some violence on you now….
Good Luck…
Addressing Starlight: One could say that Christian anger toward Jewish treatment of Jesus Christ fueled the holocaust…. Thus… These numbers would be added to the JC legacy total…. Just a thought.

I would have to say the Holocaust would be one event that caused a lot of murder and violence- and that it’s perpetrator was Adolf Hitler and the war ( or should I say killing) machine that he created. A conservative estimate puts the total number of dead in the Holocaust at 6 million, but I actually believe that this number is too low- I think the actual number is probably closer to 10 million, and it may even be as high as 12.

To directly answer your stated question and not the additional opinions, the event that caused more violence and murder than Jesus’ legacy was the Jewish Holocaust during World War II.

I wouldn’t necessarily say that the legacy of ancient gods caused MORE violence and murder, but I would certainly argue that the belief created just as much conflict.
In the early days of civilization, entire generations were brought up in the culture of religious wars as empires fought because of various beliefs in gods. The Greeks, the Romans, the Egyptians, the Aztecs, you name it. The global population wasn’t nearly what it is now, that’s why I couldn’t say for certain in terms of raw numbers.
My knowledge of history is ample, but I would have to say that the respective legacies of the followers of Muhammad and J.C. take the crown for this one.

The problem is determining what casualties were inflicted based on actual religious differences/fears as opposed to greed cloaking itself in religion to gain acceptance.
