where did the christian belief of having sex before marriage come from?

Posted on November 29th, 2009 by admin in Christian Belief | 20 Comments »

I know Catholics at least believe this but I was wondering did Jesus say this? or did catholics come up with the belief? and what happens if you do have sex before marriage? do you go to hell is that what catholics believe?

sex before marriage is sinful even if you love each other. Being in love doesn’t alter the reality that the sexual act is outside of marriage, marriage being the ceremonial union of a man and woman in matrimony. Sex outside of marriage is called fornication and the Bible definitely condemns it.

* Matt. 15:19-20, "For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders. 20 These are the things which defile the man."
* Acts 15:29, "…that you abstain from things sacrificed to idols and from blood and from things strangled and from fornication; if you keep yourselves free from such things, you will do well."
* 1 Cor. 6:9-10, "Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God."
* Heb. 13:4, "Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled; for fornicators and adulterers God will judge."

So, very clearly fornication is condemned in scripture and there is no provision for it being acceptable just because someone loves each other. Besides if this couple is so much in love, then why don’t they carry out what true love is and marry each other? True love is when you put another person first, not when you take from them. For a man and woman to engage in fornication is to declare that such love for the other person is more self centered, than other centered.

Would this statment be true for the Christian Faith?

The resurrection of Jesus is proof to the resurrection of human beings, which is a basic belief of the Christian Faith. This is saying that when we die we go to live in heaven with Jesus and His Father. We never really die.

No we don’t, we just leave our bodies. We sleep then we wake up. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. But unbelievers will die, there souls go to hell to burn for ever. They will never die once they go to hell.

anyone here can teach Me how to preach a christian sermon?

Your sermon depends on the topic and if you are going to align it to a specific part of the bible. A good sermon explains what a bible reading means and teaches how to apply that teaching to ordinary life, theory and practice. To persuade people to do it, you need to give them logical reasons to , identifying reasons, and appeal to their emotions. For example, if you take the passage where Jesus became angry at the merchants in the temple – this was a moment of Justifiable anger – we have all felt anger but too often we are told its wrong to – but here is an example where even Jesus takes action on justifiable anger. He does not harm the merchants but he removes them for their wrong doing. The actual passage is the facts of what happened. Being angry is identifiable, its an emotion that we all deal with. Your sermon needs to teach how to deal with justifiable anger and how to right wrongs.

Jesus Christ
– Fourth volume in Bloesch’s critically acclaimed Christian Foundations systematic theology.
– Probes the issues underlying the current debate over Jesus’ identity and mission.

With His Customary Encyclopedic Reach and epigrammatic style, Donald Bloesch turns his attention to the hotly disputed, yet absolutely crucial, subject of the person and work of Jesus Christ. In Jesus Christ he draws on more than forty years of devoted study to bring much-needed clarity to the ongoing discussion among scholars and the church at large.

Well apprised of the most recent developments, yet grounded in his own deep Reformed faith, Bloesch goes beneath current reconstructions of the Jesus of history (Jewish cynic, itinerant sage, charismatic prophet and so on) to probe underlying issues of theological method, humanity’s plight, the doctrine of sin, models of salvation, the Incarnation, the virgin birth, the plausibility of miracles, the relation between law and gospel, the language of faith, and the lordship and finality of Christ.
